Officer Isaacs was a 15-year veteran with the department and a 24-year veteran of the Army National Guard, Somerville Police said. He served as a Master Sergeant on the 26th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade in addition to multiple tours in Kosovo and Afghanistan.

"Officer Isaacs is a true American Hero, who dedicated his life to service," Somerville Police said. "His bright personality has left a deep impact on all that knew him."

Several law enforcement departments expressed their condolences to SPD as well. The neighboring Cambridge Police Department Tweeted, "Officer Isaacs was indeed an integral member of the Somerville Police Department. He will be dearly missed and our hearts go out to the Isaacs and SPD families."

"Our thoughts are with Officer Isaacs' family, friends and all of his SPD colleagues," The Middlesex County Sheriff's also said on Twitter. Citizens chimed in on Facebook to honor the fallen officer as well.

"Absolutely Heartbreaking," one user wrote. "Randy was one of the nicest guys around. His smile, laugh and easy going personality will certainly be missed and most definitely never forgotten."

"It was a pleasure to have served with you in Kosovo with the 101st, Randy," another user wrote. "Your dedication to serving others around the globe and in your community was honorable. May you rest in eternal peace."
